The world’s most vulnerable and poorest people have contributed least to climate warming, but they are suffering the brunt of the crisis.
More severe drought, increased flooding, the threat to low-lying islands, food and energy insecurity—all are problems faced by millions of people with increased severity.
JICA is involved in a series of projects around the world designed to alleviate many of these problems, helping Indonesia and Brazil save their vast rain forests, exploring ways to protect vulnerable islands from rising sea levels, reducing urban pollution by investing in new transit systems or developing clean sources of geothermal or wind powered energy sources.
The following photographs highlight both the impact of climate change and various JICA projects.
